Mary's Burial Site

Several Members have requested information about where Mary Colley was buried after her funeral. Peter Colley, (Mary’s husband) has kindly provided us with the following information:

Mary is buried in the main cemetery at Kensal Green, Harrow Road (not the Catholic part – although she had a Catholic Mass, and her mother was and brothers are practising Catholics her father was C of E). Mary is buried right next to their grave, Francis Bernard and Marjorie Richards.

It’s a very big cemetery. Nearest tube Kensal Green. Come out of the tube, turn left towards the traffic lights. Cross over to the backpackers hostel and turn right. Walk past the pub (Mason’s Arms?) and to the main entrance. Mary’s grave is quite a long way from the entrance in an older part. Her grave reference if asking at the gate is 68708.161.2. She is buried close to Marigold Churchill, daughter of Winston & Clementine Churchill.

If they haven’t got a map at the entrance they may be able to direct to that one which is just beyond the T-junction mentioned below. Once through the main gate there is a driveway curving around on the left. Take that, cross over the crossroad, and take the driveway as far as it goes to a T- junction. There is a water tap next to the T-junction. Once facing the T-junction Mary’s grave is new white marble base and headstone off to the right at about a 2 o’ clock position, one grave in from the drive. Mary’s parents grave has a large cross on top of it. Best to ask at the gate. There’s always someone there.

Peter is happy for anyone to visit to pay their respects.
